Do I need to have wreaths with fresh flowers for a funeral?

It is my dads funeral in a few days and am unsure what type of wreath to get, fresh flowers look nice but don't last as long as silk flowers, Is it best to use real?

  1. Hi when my dad died I got flowers made up saying DAD. Sorry on your loss.
  2. Fresh flowers are more traditional for funerals. What I would do is contact a local florist, they normally have a funeral service where someone will sit down with you and talk about what sort of flowers you want, and what arrangements they do.
  3. Hi Tony, Please accept my condolences at this time. Although you would find most people go for the usual fresh flowers, there is no reason why you could not use dried or silk flowers should you wish to do so. I would go with whichever you feel that you want to. If you choose fresh, you can always have a silk wreath made up to replace the fresh wreath in a couple of weeks time. That way you would have the best of both a fresh one for the funeral and an identical silk one for rememberance. Blessings to you and your family.
  4. The reason fresh flowers are used comes from the time when the deceased was laid out in the home for visitation. This was before embalming. The flowers helped cover any odor from decomp. Fresh flowers are best. If there is a lovely vase that they come in, the vase will hold other lovely arrangements and you will still remember your father without the funeral floral arrangement. I find funeral floral arrangements, while beautiful; depressing - because you know what they are.
  5. It's really up to you. If it's something that you are going to leave at his grave site I would use silk but either are beautiful. Sorry for you loss
